God exists as three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit- The Trinity; Three Persons, One God who exists in three distinct persons. Each person of the Trinity is fully God, co-equal and co-eternal, and shares the same divine essence or nature.
Who is God
- God the Father: God is the creator and sustainer of the universe, the source of all things. God is the loving Father, merciful, and the ultimate authority.
- “For this is what the high and exalted One says— he who lives forever, whose name is holy: ‘I live in a high and holy place, but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.'” – Isaiah 57:15
Who is Jesus
- God the Son, Jesus Christ is the incarnation of God, meaning that he took on human form while still being fully divine. Jesus lived a sinless life, offered himself as a sacrifice for humanity’s sins through his death on the cross, and was resurrected to bring salvation and eternal life.
- “She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” – Matthew 1:21
Holy Spirit
- God the Holy Spirit is the active presence of God in the world today. The Spirit guides, empowers, convicts, and comforts believers. The Holy Spirit works to bring about spiritual transformation, leading us to faith in Jesus Christ and enabling us to live according to God’s will
- “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.” – John 14:16-17
